Resolution

Every year I set myself a New Year's resolution.

These always comprise of a positive monthly challenge. Over the years these have included visiting a different castle every month, taking a photo of wherever I was on the first day of every month & even sleeping in my bath...but that's another story which I'm willing to divulge for cash sums only.

This New Year I have decided to take myself out of my comfort zone to the world of dance.

So far my knowledge of dance comprises twofold: a) regularly pogo-ing in the mosh pits of gigs and b) by proxy from the "Ladybird Book of Ballet" which I was given in my early years.

(I am fibbing slightly).

Inspired by the "pas de deux" & "plies" illustrated in my treasured Ladybird book I started ballet lessons with Miss Lorraine when I was five years old.

I lasted for two classes.

Predominantly this was due to the fact that I wasn't willing to wear the regulation black leotard. It was also due to the fact that Miss Lorraine referred to a "plie" as a "window". This shattered my Ladybird illusions of grace & grandeur & when asked by my mum why I didn't want to continue with the lessons anymore I explained that it was because Miss Lorraine spoke to us (the class) like children.

So, thirty years on & I'm back on the (dancing) horse as a fully grown (more fully grown than I'd like to be) novice, adult, who's ready & willing to crash-dance their way through 2009. I come equipped with buckets of enthusiasm, two left feet, a sports bra that could parachute the Olsen twins to safety & the ability to laugh at myself if I crash more than dance.

I intend to learn a different type of dance every month & document my dancing progress. January's style is still unconfirmed, so feel free to offer advice tips, coaching, sponsorship & of course encouragement.

Yours resolved
